Across from the Bluff Park Diner and down from Tip Top Grill, a small trail leads to Lover's Leap, a dramatic rock outcropping which faces off of Shades Crest. Named by the legend of an Indian Brave, who had supposedly grown weary of the attentions of an Indian princess, and took her to the high crest where he stabbed her. Suddenly stricken with remorse over what he had done, he gathered her in his arms and leaped off the bluff. Not exactly the picture of romance. Nowadays the rock is a great place to see the expansive valley below, which now sprawls with the Ross Bridge development and Golf Course, as well as to the replica of Lord Byron's "Childe Harold's Pilgrimage" which was originally removed from the premises.
