Big Cove is a small community that has seen a tremendous growth spurt in the Huntsville area over the past 30 or so years. John Clan Grayson was the first settler and permanent resident who named the community. Growing up in the Big Cove area was growing up in the country years ago. The Taylor's general store in the northeast corner and Slayton's store in the southwest corner. Big Cove school was where it started for many of us, from the first grade through the ninth grade, at which time we had a graduation ceremony and then moved on to our high schools. The RTJ Golf Course sits on the site of the Dr. Whitaker farm and most of the land within the Big Cove area was cotton fields and hay fields. Things do change as things grow and this is one community that has seen a lot happen over the past years. Big Cove has quietly rested while Hampton Cove continues to grow.
