Trussville's oldest, and one of the most desirable, neighborhoods is the Historic Cahaba Project located in the heart of the city. The neighborhood and its tree-lined streets was built in 1938 as by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) as suburban housing. It's one of the few WPA projects across the country that still exits. The Cahaba Project is now listed on the state of Alabama and National Historic Registers. The neighborhood's sidewalks draw walkers, runners and bikers from everywhere in the city and families fill the neighborhood's multiple public parks. In 2015, the historic building that originally housed Hewitt-Trussville High School will be renovated to house a neighborhood elementary school. The neighborhood is also home to the Trussville Public Library.
