Mooresville, Alabama is located in Limestone County off of I-565. The population is less than a hundred. Among the early nineteenth century homes sits one of the oldest operating post offices in the nation. Mooresville was incorporated in 1818, a year before Alabama gained her statehood, in the days of King Cotton. Andrew Johnson, before he became the 17th United States President, moved to Mooresville to become a tailor apprentice to Joseph Sloss in 1842. James Garfield, before he became the 20th United States President, preached at the Church of Christ in Mooresville. It was during the War Between the States. He was an officer with the nearby camping 42nd Ohio Volunteers Union Army.Mooresville, even though often compared to a Williamsburg by visitors, residents are friendly and welcome visitors, but make a clear contrast.
