On January 19, 2019 Wetumpka experienced an F2 tornado. A direct hit to two of our oldest church buildings and 39 other structures including homes and businesses devastated us for a brief time. Through the efforts of hundreds of volunteers, first responders, local leaders, and our local utility companies our community is getting back on its feet quickly. The iconic First Presbyterian Church at the foot of Bibb Graves Bridge was completely destroyed and the historic chapel of the First Baptist Church was damaged by the storm, both will be repaired. Many of the other damaged structures are along the riverfront. Residents and developers are anxious for the opportunity to re-purpose some of this real estate. Stay tuned to see what happens next.

The first-ever Coosapalooza Brewfest will be on Saturday, July 21st in downtown Wetumpka! Come join the rest of the town as you sip and sample craft brews from all over Alabama. Some are familiar and some may be new to your taste buds! This is something very new to Wetumpka and will be a great opportunity to meet new people who may enjoy the same things that you do! The Christmas tree lighting will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.! Wetumpka Christmas on the Coosa hosts this every year in Gold Star Park. This is a great location to get those beautiful family photos in before the end of the year. Come out and get ready for the holidays with some of your closest friends in town!

Christmas on the Coosa started in 1984 and is a tradition for the whole family to enjoy! This year, the parade will be held on Saturday, December, 9 at 10:00 a.m. Businesses from all around will be in line to march through the town and show off their beautiful floats! Of course, candy and other goodies will be given out as well. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in line as always! If you are new to the area or have been attending for years, it is a great way to get to know the community and celebrate this wonderful time of year!

Coming to Wetumpka, live in concert, Randy Houser will be at the Wind Creek Casino Saturday, November 18! The casino in downtown Wetumpka holds many live entertainment events every month. It is a great way for the already close community to come together and listen to the sounds of their favorite artists! Sign up for tours for Friday, October 27 and Saturday, October 28. Get all of the juicy facts and hear about the people and events that have shaped our town history. For the second year in a row the Wetumpka Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the haunted history tour. You will experience the rich history of historic downtown buildings and listen to hair-raising personal experiences of paranormal occurrences in the buildings by taking a haunted history tour! If you're especially daring, you can participate in a paranormal investigation in one of the most haunted buildings in Wetumpka!

River & Blues Music and Art Festival just held their sixth gathering at Gold Star Park in Wetumpka on July 21-22. People from all around come to hangout and listen to good music! The art show is amazing to look at and they have many activities for kids as well. This year they had nine bands and two stages with as much blues as you could ask for. Fort Toulouse, a historic site near Wetumpka, was founded by the French in 1717. Fort Toulouse served as the easternmost outpost for French Louisiana and as a result the settlers there lived in close community with numerous Native American tribes. It was not uncommon for French settlers to intermarry with local tribes, such as the Alibamu. The fort was eventually abandoned after France ceded the territory in 1763, but the surrounding farms and settlements grew into what is today known as Elmore County.

Those who planned on coming to Wetumpka for the 2017 River and Blues Fest on July 22nd, also came a night early to enjoy a Friday night stage in downtown Wetumpka. The stage was located at the corner of Commerce and Court Streets in the historic business district. There was a performance from 7:00-9:00 pm by Big Bobby and The Blues.Visitors brought their own lawn chairs to sit back and enjoy this free concert. This event also helped to support the local merchants who stayed open late.

The Wetumpka Depot is home to many great actors, whose plays can make you laugh or cry. It is definitely one of Wetumpka's places to be when a new play is available. On July 13, 14, 20-23, 27-29 a new play will be showing titled "Southern Fried Funeral", a Comedy by Osborne and Eppler. Funerals in the south could go so many ways. What a wonderful library our community has! It has been so well maintained and the staff are so very helpful. Conveniently located on Main Street in front of Gold Star Park you can go in, get you a good read, and walk to the park, read your book and enjoy the river view. Sometimes you just have to hold a book in your hand!

Exhibition dates for " A Heritage of Art and Design: An International Survey from Troy University" is available June 16-September 11, 2017. There will be a reception at the Kelly Fitzpatrick Memorial Gallery on June 27th from 5:30-7:30 pm. This will publicly open up the exhibit which features entries from Troy University Department of Art and Design professors, alumni and current students. The Wetumpka Chamber of Commerce is hosting the first annual Haunted History tours of Downtown Wetumpka! Our city has a rich history. It was once considered a location for our state capitol! With the Coosa River winding through, it was once a thriving place for commerce and business. The Coosa River also provided a perfect place for many Creek Indian colonies in the 1700's. The downtown area buildings are said to be home to many spirits including Indian and French settlers! The tour is sold out for 2016, so there must be some truth to the whispering's!

The Wetumpka YMCA has experienced a lot of growth in recent years. It is a great place for all of your fitness needs. It boasts a large workout room with the latest machines to assist you in your fitness goals. Additionally, many fitness classes from Spin to Kick Boxing are offered throughout the week. Beautiful Lake Jordan is known for great fishing and awesome sunsets! It is located just 10 minutes from Wetumpka. There are several public boat ramps. On the Holtville side of the lake, you can access the water at Bonner's Point. On the Titus side, you have public use of the state docks in Wallsboro or the Lake Jordan Marina located in Titus. This year's event will be November 5-9, 2014 on the grounds of Fort Toulouse and Fort Jackson just off Highway 231 in Wetumpka. Join us for these demonstrations of living history.
