Oak Mountain High School's mission is "to empower each student for excellence." As one of eight of the Shelby County school system's high schools, OMHS has an enrollment of over 1600 students (8th-12th grades) with half of the student body being comprised of males and the other half female. Minority enrollment makes up approximately 16% of the current student population.OMHS was among the more than 2,000 public and private schools listed in the "Most Challenging High Schools" index published by the Washington Post in 2014, which ranks the toughest schools in the nation. OMHS was ranked #4 statewide and #565 nationally. With a 99% four year graduation rate, an average ACT score of 24.4, an average SAT score of 1672, and 80% of its graduates attending four-year colleges, it's not surprising that Oak Mountain is one of Shelby County's most highly-sought after schools. "The Eagle's Eye", OMHS's online news site, gives you a look behind the statistics to the school's current events, future happenings, sports, academic, and faculty news, as well as student life features. This online news site brings to light the pride and pursuit of excellence this school community shares. (A link to "The Eagle's Eye" can be found at the bottom of the school's official website.)
