    Gardendale's Miracle League Park has an accessible playground next to its ballfield. This is a steadily developing city fifteen minutes or so north of downtown Birmingham. This city is very welcoming to all citizens as shown by very friendly accessible parks and has now added the Miracle League playground. This comes as a result of a very active community involved in improving daily life for all members and in the city's overall appeal. This park is nestled among a wide price range of homes and is utilized by neighboring communities. The addition of this park brings a wheelchair swing, ramps sitting on soft rubber ground with bright, stimulating colors and fun tasks to explore while there.

    My great-great grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Hughes, was one of the very first pastors of Gardendale First Baptist Church (1900-1904). Since that time, the church has grown to become one of the largest churches in Alabama!

    The church operates on two distinct campuses, the North Campus and the South Campus. The South Campus was originally where Sunday worship services were held. Today, that campus is used primarily for special events and recreational purposes. There is a fellowship hall and gymnasium on that site. The North Campus is now the "main" campus. It is where Sunday worship services are held. A new, state-of-the-art children's ministry facility was added in 2013. The North Campus is visible from Interstate 65 and has become an area landmark with its distinctive huge cross in front.

    Christmastime is Coming!
    Get ready for one of the largest attended parades in the area. December 5 at 6:00 Gardendale Chamber of Commerce officially kicks off the holiday with its annual Christmas Parade. Bands, floats, music, lights and cheers can be seen and heard all over town. Families make it an annual event to get their spot early in the day and tailgate waiting for the party to start. Santa Claus makes a special appearance and shops are open later and offer treats as well. Great tradition for Gardendale!

    For my family, Ming's Garden located on Main Street in Gardendale and Sunday lunch go together. Ming's offers a full Sunday buffet with an extensive offering of the best Chinese food and the sugar donuts are simply the best part of the meal.     Fall Friday nights in Gardendale are all about the local high school football game and ending the evening with a trip to meet up with friends at Pasquales. Still serving its famous hoagies, pizza, pasta and garlic bread, you can always count on the menu to have its tried and true favorites. The weekday lunch buffet doesn't disappoint either. Salad, pizza, pasta and its famous garlic bread are on the all you can eat buffet drawing locals for lunch daily. In addition to the good food, I must say they have the best ice in town. Weird I know, but it is finely crushed and keeps the Diet Mt. Dew ice cold. I always get one for the road!!
