    It was known as Bud Allison Road and as Crystal Caverns Road, now as Cavern Road.
    Why Cavern; because, there is a Cave!! It was known as McCluney's Cave, later renamed Crystal Caverns, the property is privately owned and currently not open to the public. In the early 1920's is was a popular location and was open to the public for many years. Recently we had the opportunity to visit with the owners and take a tour of the cavern. I had not been to the cavern in many years. It had not changed much; it was a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. I hope that it can be reopened, so everyone can enjoy it.

    Beginning on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 the carnival with rides, games and food will be operating at the Clay Sports Complex on Old Springville Road (hours 6-10 p.m.). Saturday, Apr 4th will be a fun filled day with a parade, opening ceremonies at the baseball park and the Clay Days Festival. There will be something for everyone, so plan to come out and join the fun.

    History of Clay
    Although the city of Clay was not formed until June 2000, its history dates well back into the 1800's. The first Clay Post Office was was opened in 1878. The area has continued to grow with many new subdivisions and and much commercial development, yet it is still a quiet little town just outside of Birmingham. A GREAT place to live.
