Built in 1977 and named after the Roy Bragg, a strong community and political advocate for the Gardendale community, Bragg Middle School is a top school in the state. It was built around a new and unique design concept for the time period. The concept promoted more openness and connectedness within the school The lunchroom had no walls around it and was basically the center of the school; most of the classrooms only have three walls and no doors. The side of a classroom on the interior adjacent to the 'hallways' are open and exposed to the common/hall area. This is very effective in eliminating isolation of students and teachers and creating a safer school environment for everyone.

A Jefferson County School, Mount Olive Elementary opened in 1970 at its current site. Originally grades 1 through 8, in 1977 it was converted to 1 through 6, with grades 7 and 8 moved to the new Jr. High School.
The school has traditionally been a feeder school to Bragg Jr. High and Gardendale High School. Known for excellent teachers, many of its students have gone on to be top students at Gardendale High, including quarterbacks, award winning musicians and valedictorians.
  • If you live in the Irondale area, this school is for your children. Since 2005, JCIB has ranked in the top ten of Newsweek's Top 100 High Schools that prepare students for college. They offer AP and pre IB/IB classes. Upon graduation, your student will receive an Advanced Academic Diploma and will have tested vigorously for the IB diploma which is recognized all over the world. Scores come in around July and diplomas are mailed. If you have a good student who needs more than the regular school curriculum, this is the school for you. There are multiple opportunities for scholarships due to the academic achievements of the school. It is located on the campus of Shades Valley High School, a Jefferson County School.

My student graduated from JCIB with her Advanced Academic Diploma and the International Baccalaureate diploma. She was most prepared for her college days while others did not know how to function in a college setting. It truly shaped who she is today. I moved here from Florida so she could attend this school and I was not disappointed!

Gardendale High School Sophomore and Juniors take a pledge - no texting and driving. With the Alabama Attorney General, addressing the students of the importance of this new law is a priority. The "it can wait" pledge also reminds students that it's smart not to text someone if you know the other person is driving as well. Good advice for all drivers!

    Great Community! Great Schools!
I went to Bragg Jr. High and Gardendale High School. They can boast some of the best teachers in the area and several are top award winners in the State of Alabama. There are excellent math, science and music programs, just to name a few. The schools also have a long tradition of a top football and wrestling programs.
