With its inception in the fall of 1926, the Tuscaloosa County High School Band program is one of the longest running band programs in the state of Alabama. Since then, the program has experienced exponential growth in the number of students as well as performing quality. Today the program boasts six separate major ensembles and various other small ensembles. This includes the 170 member Wildcat Marching Band, three concert ensembles (Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band), two jazz ensembles (Velvet Blue Jazz Orchestra and Studio Jazz Band), and various chamber and percussion ensembles. The program has a history of being selected for various prestigious conferences and venues in the Southeast, most recently the Alabama Music Educators Association State Conference and the Jacksonville State University Jazz Festival.

Finally, the TCHS Band has the distinction of receiving straight superior ratings at the Alabama Bandmasters Association Music Performance Assessment countless times in its history. The program is led by Mr. Mike Guzman, Director of Bands and Dr. Jed Smart, Assistant Director of Bands.

Located in the Coker/Buhl area in Tuscaloosa County, the Sipsey Valley Middle and High School is supported by heavy parental involvement. You can feel the sense of community in this rural area with the support of the school's athletic programs and extracurricular activities. Friday night football reigns supreme!

Most of the homes and farms in the surrounding area are located on acreage or large lots, typical of what you would find in a country setting. As I drove through the area on my way to show a property I sensed the community pride and friendly atmosphere. If you're looking for a home in a rural setting but still only minutes from the city, this area is for you.
