Five Points Area Insight

  • Following the destruction from the Civil War, The East Huntsville addition of Five Points was created to revitalize Huntsville and attract industry back to the area. It was the first true suburb in Huntsville. This was made possible by a streetcar line allowing workers that didn't own automobiles to commute back and forth from work without living within walking distance.

If you ever ask a resident of Five Points how they like living in Five Points the answer is always the same. I love it! I wouldn't want to live anywhere else! This somewhat eclectic neighborhood marches to its own beat. As a realtor, I have sold properties and have helped buyers purchase properties in Five Points. I have also bought lots and help clients build reproduction era homes. The residents I have met usually fall into the category of "creative types" and there is a lot of creativity that stems from Five Points. I have dealt with artists, painters, photographers, professional writers, pottery makers, graphic designers, illustrators and even owners of small advertising agencies. As far as these folks are concerned there are no other areas of town where they would even entertain living. Five Points is a world of its own.

I had a friend that moved here from Tucson. She wanted to build a small home that looked like it was removed from the desert in Arizona and placed in Huntsville. We ended up custom building the home. She had special tile with dog prints embedded into the tile flown in. She also had other amenities that you could not find in Alabama, flown in from Tucson. When the home was finished it was fantastic. It had a Southwest flavor but a rustic look that was a perfect fit in Five Points. After a few years she moved back to Arizona and we sold the house in just a few days for our asking price. In fact we had multiple buyers. The lady that bought it was so excited because there was nothing else in Huntsville like it.

In the afternoons if one was to drive through Five Points, you would see people walking their dogs around the neighborhood and jogging. The athletic ones (which there are many) would be hiking up Monte Sano Mountain. Five Points is unique in the fact almost everyone walks to do their shopping. Sort of like you do in Europe. Everyone is friendly and stops to speak to you. There are small stores, restaurants and the Star Market which is Five Points very own neighborhood grocery store. It is also a quick walk to downtown to all the bars and nightclubs. If you enjoy living in an area that's both friendly and artistic then perhaps Five Points is the place for you.

Five Points is the name of the area in Huntsville where five roads intersect. Not only that, but Huntsville has really utilized this fun idea and turned it into the go-to spot for fun shops and restaurants. It is also growing extremely fast and drawing in young professionals, due to the unique homes that can be easily remodeled for a great price that young professionals can afford. Only seconds from Downtown Huntsville, Five Points is a great central neighborhood in the city.
