    Ono Island Development
I like to think of Ono Island as the island within the shores of an island! Located in Orange Beach, a Gulf Coast destination known for its sugar-white sand beaches! One mile west of the Florida line - or the Flora Bama if that gives you a better reference - this private, gated 5.5-mile long barrier island is a community of about 900 homes.

Surrounded by beautiful, crystal clear water, it is bordered by Bayou St. John to the north and Old River to the south. Canals wander through the island providing boaters water access for interior lots and homes. You might think owning a home on an island would not be affordable, but closed prices for 2020 ranged from $275,000 to in excess of 3 million. There is something for every island seeker!

Ono Island has homes available in many different price ranges. All are single-family homes, but the differences are in the lots...bay, river, canal, harbor fronts, and non-waterfront lots. Most people see the homes on Old River that are visible from Perdido Beach Blvd. People who enjoy our beautiful waterways also see the perimeter homes on the north side of the island.

But there is more! Ono Island is integrated with a canal system and homes built on these canals have protected moorings for their boats. Then you have Ono Harbor, where some homes are built on the water while others are not, but they all have boat slips in the harbor.

Last, but not least, there is Ono North where most of the homes are not waterfront. But like all the properties on the island, Ono North has access to a boat launch on Old River. Ono North residents are members of a recreation center that has indoor/outdoor pools, an exercise room, and six lighted tennis courts. Based on availability, other residents of Ono Island have the option to join the recreation center.

Ono Island amenities include a community center that holds various events, a children's playground, and walking/bike paths from one end of Ono to the other! There are various organizations on the island such as a Ladies Club, Men's Club, Bon Temp Cabrix Mardi Gras Society, Bunco groups, Bridge groups, and more.

One story is that neither Alabama nor Florida wanted to build the bridge over to Alabama Point. Each state said "Oh, no!" to the other. Finally Alabama had to build the bridge and acquired access to the island...and aptly named the place "Ono Island".
