There are so many areas of Escambia County that are great places to live. And you are always a very short drive to the beach and bay plus everything Pensacola has to offer. Pensacola is the metro area of the county and has many great restaurants plus a fabulous downtown area.

As I sit down to write this Hurricane Michael is now a category four hurricane. It makes me quite triggered as I lived through Hurricane Ivan in 2004. That was weeks without power....yes weeks. The amount of devastation that we are about to experience here in the panhandled is uncharted. Ivan was a strong category three and Pensacola looked like a bomb went off.

Storm surge is the most problematic and the Florida Governor has urged anyone in this path to leave. Think about 9-13 feet of water in your house. Being over 100 miles away from Panama City we elected to stay home. I am starting to wonder if that was a good decision. This morning around 3:30 a.m. I walked out back and literally heard Hurricane Michael show up. I kept wondering if that was wind or rain I was hearing coming up the street. Only lasted a few seconds so a squall of sorts. I seemed to be glued to the twitter feed about the storm. I know we have so many wonderful things about living here in paradise, but today we have a reality that the ocean can be both beautiful and deadly. Please stay safe
