Families are safe to enjoy evening walks or bicycle rides because there is no through traffic in this community, however the rolling hills might be a challenge. The spacious lots and gorgeous homes are the icing on the cake.

Halloween is almost upon us and one of the real treats this time of year is the neighborhood getting decorated for the occasion just about a week ahead of time. And what I like about this neighborhood is that its not "overdone" and tacky. Just right.

We have enough homes in the subdivision to provide a pretty robust bounty for the "trick or treaters". Some of the hills will make the little guys and gals work a little harder to make sure they get to every home. Because there is no through traffic, the kids are pretty safe, but it never hurts to remind all us old folks that there will be a lot of kids out and a little extra caution is called for to keep our Wild Timber Neighborhood, and all neighborhoods, safe.

Living in Wild Timber is super convenient. Your choice for everyday shopping is to the west about five miles to the Huntley Parkway shopping center or to the east to 280, which is also about five miles.

To the west is Publix Supermarket, CVS Pharmacy, banks, credit unions, hair salons and restaurants. Convenient and on the way home from work, I frequently stop by the grocery store at this location. When I would rather not cook, Johnny Ray's bar-b-que is in the same shopping center.

To the east is the Winn-Dixie on Highway 280 as well as the Wal-Mart. Also in the same area are a number of fast food restaurants, sit down restaurants, specialty stores (like auto parts, etc) and my favorite veterinarian.

It is a super convenient location.

I am constantly amazed at all the family activities that are within a few minutes from the great neighborhood of Wild Timber. Where else could you be "next door" to Oak Mountain State Park with the hiking trails, award winning mountain bike trails, fishing lakes, camping, horse back riding, golf and much much more.

It's your park. A more complete list and a video is available on the park web site. Check it out and you'll be amazed too!
  • If you love the south of town and over the mountain area you know that there are restaurants, entertainment, recreation, shopping and everything you could hope for near by. You also know that some of the best neighborhoods in the metro area are south of town.

One of the things that I love about Wild Timber is the location from a commuter standpoint. It is on Shelby County Highway 11 roughly halfway between (4.5 miles) Highway 280 and I-65, the two main corridors south of the metro area.

Highway 280, with all the shopping, restaurants, entertainment, and more is just five minutes away. If you work downtown or in Hoover, you might prefer I-65 which is also just five minutes away. You can go either way, depending on the time of day and, because of the equidistant timing to the major corridors, Wild Timber is "closer" than many of the south of town neighborhoods that, as the crow flies, are actually nearer.

I discovered Wild Timber almost by accident, as I was preparing to return to the Birmingham area. It's on County Highway 11 about half way between I-65 and Highway 280. I knew I wanted to be south of town, and looked at house after house. I made an offer on my home, here in Wild Timber, immediately upon viewing it.

The neighborhood is neat and tidy, with nice homes and well manicured lawns. Houses range in price generally from the high 200's to the mid 300's, with an occasional home in the 400's. But what I love about the neighborhood is the view. Nestled at the base of Oak Mountain, the incredible scenery is breath taking. My covered and screened deck is probably my favorite place to be. I have the most incredible view of Oak Mountain and I have to be careful because my morning cup of coffee can easily turn into a pot of coffee. And when the leaves start turning in the fall, the colors on the mountain are absolutely brilliant. Last year when it snowed, oh, what a view! Absolutely majestic!

The neighborhood is bordered by Oak Mountain State Park property on one side. If you are lucky, you may get a God Gift of an occasional deer in the back yard, like I did a few days ago.
