Springville, is a community about 20 miles northeast of downtown Birmingham. Even with its population growth over the last 10 to 15 years, Springville has maintained its overall appearance as a small town community with a great downtown historic district. Originally known as Big Springs when it formed in 1877, Springville is becoming a destination for those who work in Birmingham, but want to live in a more rural, country setting. Springville is served by three schools from the St. Clair County School District: Springville Elementary, Springville Middle, & Springville High School. Two movies have been filmed in Springville: Gangland (1987) and Rustin (2001). Also, Hank Patterson, who play Mr. Fred Ziffel in Green Acres, was born in Springville in the late 1880s.
