I haven't had a chance to eat at The Choppin Block Restaurant, but I have visited the Butcher Shop for some wonderful slices of beef tenderloin to cook for a special occasion. I've never been disappointed in fresh meat from The Choppin Block. We're lucky to have it in this area!

Big Springs Park, located just off Main Street in downtown Springville has become a favorite park area for those in and all around the Springville area. The playground equipment is great for kids all year round, while the summer months mean the opening of the Springville Splash Pad, a great water adventure for kids of all ages.

For those of you who love to "pick," it is always worth a trip to Ole Springville Antique Mall. Located on Main Street in Springville, there are multiple booths to explore and plenty of great finds.

A visit to Homestead Hollow is a great way to spend a day or just the afternoon. There are arts and crafts, good food, entertainment, things for kids and adults. If you have not been, you need to make your plans to go.

The Pioneer Village of Homestead Hollow, located on 17+/- wooded acres, holds three festivals annually in May, October and November. This pioneer-era farm includes original cabins, a working still and an old-time general store. Some of the attractions at Homestead Hollow's Festivals include homemade arts and crafts, pioneer demonstrations of the old time days, (i.e., wood carving, ironwork, blacksmithing, smoke house cooking, gardening, quilting, whiskey making), cabin tours, children's activities, food, live entertainment and more. The attraction I enjoy the most is the living-history demonstrations of the era. Just seeing this demonstration makes you really appreciate all of our modern conveniences! They also provide demonstrations for student field trips throughout the school year.

Springville Splash Pad is the answer to that sweltering summer heat. The kids will love playing in the water and spending time with friends. There is a infant/toddler splash pad as well as one for the older kids. Don't forget the huge bucket. Kids line up to have the water dump right on their heads. There are also pavilions to enjoy a nice lunch and watch the kids play under a shaded canopy. Summer fun and great memories await you at the Springville Splash Pad.

If you want to have your children put down those game devices, move them to the country. When they have a horse or any animal to take care of they will grow up with the values like their parents did. I think if they have things to do outside they will grow to like it. Sometimes children don't know what is available to them, it is up to us as parents to introduce other options.

Springville has so many attractions for children, such as the new Railroad park, swimming pools, ball parks, and even a 4 wheeler facility. Take a day and visit Springville today!
  • Springville, is a community about 20 miles northeast of downtown Birmingham. Even with its population growth over the last 10 to 15 years, Springville has maintained its overall appearance as a small town community with a great downtown historic district. Originally known as Big Springs when it formed in 1877, Springville is becoming a destination for those who work in Birmingham, but want to live in a more rural, country setting. Springville is served by three schools from the St. Clair County School District: Springville Elementary, Springville Middle, & Springville High School. Two movies have been filmed in Springville: Gangland (1987) and Rustin (2001). Also, Hank Patterson, who play Mr. Fred Ziffel in Green Acres, was born in Springville in the late 1880s.
