  • Oak Mountain State Park was a favorite for me growing up as a child in the Shelby County area. I have fond memories of my mother packing a picnic lunch and taking my sister, brother, and myself on hikes through the trails up to Peavine Falls; singing like we were the Von Trapp family all the way. With shaded trails and relief from the brutal Alabama summer humidity, autumn was the perfect time for family fun at Oak Mountain State Park!

I'd encourage you to take advantage of the beautiful nature you'll find at Oak Mountain State Park, located near Pelham, in Shelby County. Park hours are from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and the campgrounds offer cabins, RV storage, equestrian and back country camping, and are pet friendly. Some of the many activities the entire family can enjoy include fishing, horseback riding, golf, a demonstration farm, camping, hiking trails, bike trials, archery, beaches, and a BMX area. If you hear singing near Peavine Falls that sounds like something from "The Sound of Music", you just might run into my family or my siblings' families...passing on the tradition of enjoying this beautiful park.
