If you cannot decide where to attend college, The University of Montevallo may be the right fit for you! Originally opening in 1896 UM is one of the oldest colleges in the state. It has evolved over the years to offer some of the finest education available to its students. Located within walking distance to the newly revitalized Main Street District in Montevallo it offers not only a great education but the feel of small town living with local shops and restaurants that are sure to make your college experience even better!

According to Shelbyal.com this 479-acre national cemetery in Montevallo will serve veterans' needs for at least the next 50 years. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Cemetery Administration maintains 155 national cemeteries in 42 states and Puerto Rico as well as 34 soldier's lots and monument sites. Please note that there is not a VA national cemetery in every state.

As part of achieving this goal, LifeStart is ensuring students and staff members in Alabama schools know how to use AEDs. Montevallo High School is one of 15 schools designated as a "HeartSafe School". This honor is awarded to schools who include AED training as part of their curriculum with regular teaching on this topic in classrooms for all students.

Montevallo, Alabama ~ Alabama National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located in Montevallo, Alabama, 15 miles south of Birmingham. The 479-acre national cemetery in the Birmingham area will serve veterans' needs for at least the next 50 years. The project began on June 25, 2009. The cemetery is located at 3133 Highway 119, 15 miles south of Birmingham, just north of the town of Montevallo and west of Interstate Highway 65. From Interstate 65, take Exit 234 (Shelby County Airport). Turn left on Hwy. 87 (this turns into Hwy. 12). Travel on Hwy. 12 (approximately 1.5 miles to stop sign). Turn right on Hwy. 22 and go 2.8 miles to traffic light. Turn left on Hwy. 119 South. Travel 1.3 miles and the cemetery will be on the right.

There is a lot more to Montevallo than the University. Yes, it has its beautiful historical buildings like so many Alabama small towns. But one of the beauties of Montevallo is the Salem Road area as it winds through big oak trees with beautiful estate homes sitting back from the road. You will see the other residents of Salem Road leaning over the fence because the grass looks greener on the other side! This area is beautiful from all angles!

On Saturday, July 4th families can spend the day at the American Village. Featuring Colonial life back to life. Gates open at noon. All kinds of great activities for children to participate in during the day. Fireworks show will begin at dusk. So, come and spend the entire day at the American village for your Fourth of July 2015.

If you find yourself in the area, you should stop in and pay tribute to our fallen service men and women. The cemetery serves to honor those, and commemorate the sacrifice they made for this great country. Although the setting may seem somber, there is an air of comfort in knowing that you don't have to travel all the way to Washington to pay homage.

What started as an all-women’s college in 1896 has blossomed into the hub of the city of Montevallo. It's one of only 27 public liberal arts colleges in the country. The university boasts one of the longest running college traditions in the country, and was featured as such as an answer on Jeopardy. Apart from it being an amazing learning experience, the campus itself has beautiful sculptures and plenty of natural beauty to abound. It's worth the time to simply drive around the area, it's gorgeous!

Orr Park is one of those rare finds. It's packed full of whimsy, playfulness, and that good old getting back to nature! It's a great place to spend the day, exploring all the intricate carvings on the trees. Musing over how the artist could have made something so beautiful! Come on down to Montevallo and take a peek for yourself!

Orr Park is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. I recently went there ahead of my grandchildren and made notes of some of the carvings. I made a list of things for them to find (and drew pictures for the ones that do no read yet). We walked through the park and looked for the characters on the list and had a great time checking them off. Lots of excitement, conversation and memories. We concluded with a picnic lunch, a walk and play time. A great day that we all still talk about! Thank you to the local art students for providing such a unique park!

The Montevallo Golf Course began as a small 9 hole course and was expanded and lengthened to today's great course. It is a relatively short public course, but it offers some great oportunities to prove your golfing skills. Hole #3 especially has an huge elevation change and and the par 3 green is surrounded by University Lake! Exciting! This is just one example of a short but tough course!

Come to Montevallo on Oct. 26, 2013 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and enjoy the University Artwalk and Halloween Street Party. There will be a costume contest for all ages. Also view the student's' artwork. Festivities will take place on Main St. in Montevallo.

Regardless of your political views, a visit to the National Cemetery in Montevallo is a fresh reminder of those who have fought for our country. The National Cemetery is only a few years old, but you would be amazed at the numbers of those who have already found their eternal resting place there. The National Cemetery is located on Hwy 119 and is directly west of the American Village. Both venues are worth a trip down to Montevallo.

If you have not stopped in to visit the American Village in Montevallo you have really missed a great treat. The building is an exact replica from our American past. The characters are in authentic costumes and roles. The 4th of July is their largest event, but programs are presented all year round. It is a great location for school field trips. You need to put this hidden gem on your must see list!

The University of Montevallo opened in 1856. Cobblestone streets and beautiful oak trees connect the academic halls of this university. The University of Montevallo is cited as Alabama’s only public liberal arts university. Many students seeking their degrees in teaching and theater can be found among the students enrolled here. Founded in 1995, the America Village serves as an educational institution to strengthen and renew the foundations of American liberty and self-government. Located in Montevallo, AL you cannot help but become intrigued with the thought of living during revolutionary times. The American Village has a mission to continue to educate youths about the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights. In addition to education, it is also a facility that can be used to host private events such as weddings, meetings, conferences, etc. Did we mention the fireworks on the fourth of July?
