Have you ever had "one of those days"? I have and I know I will have more. I have just had a bear of a day running around feeling like nothing was going my way. I was in a hurry and needed to zip into the bank to make a quick deposit, so I chose the drive through. Well, the person in front of me must have decided to do an entire year's worth of personal banking as I sat there waiting and waiting; another car was behind me so I could not back out. And then I was driving down 280 and came to a point in the middle lane where two cars decided to get very familiar with one another and trade paint jobs. Well, of course, everyone needed to stop and look as they crept by. It was raining and I was hitting every red light.

You get the picture I just wanted to get away from it all!

I turned off of busy 280 and started my familiar drive down the entrance to home, Highland Lakes. As I passed through the front gates and the guard waved at me and smiled, I immediately felt the stress start to leave my body. I was becoming calm and relaxed and all I did was drive roughly a mile. I looked at the trees and the flowers blooming as I passed the big lake.

I was home. I pulled into my drive; no more traffic and no more frustrating people, just peace and quiet. I could go on and on about the pluses of living in such an amazing community, but you need to come and see it for yourself. I can't let all the secrets out on this site or everyone might want to move here.

If you are like me you are always looking for things to do with the family. Family time is so important to me, I don't want to be one of those people who live to work. Life is so short and my family is so important to me.

We decided to take a trip to Desoto Caverns and spend the day together. It was so worth the trip and we had an amazing time. To think this is right on our doorstep here in Highland Lakes and just a short drive away. We spent the day learning about the cavern and just having quality family time.

If you are headed there pack a picnic and spend the day having fun while learning about the area.

It was date night for my wife and me. My mother had agreed to watch the kids and we got the rare opportunity to go out and eat. We had two criteria, not too far from our home in Highland Lakes and some place we had not been. We found Chuck's Fish right near us on Highway 280. The menu boasts fresh seafood caught from the Gulf. We decided to give it a try and I can tell you we were not disappointed!

I had the gumbo to start. (I am originally from New Orleans so I can be a bit of a gumbo snob) It was seasoned well and the taste was amazing. I then had a mixed seafood platter for my main course and everything was cooked to perfection. Finally I had to have the bread pudding for dessert and, oh my, was it amazing!

Please do yourself a favor and book a table at Chuck's Fish and treat yourself to a great meal. It is definitely worth the trip. They even have a fresh sushi bar!

That may seem odd to hear in the heartland of great SEC football but it's true. Right on your door step whether you live in Highland Lakes, Mt. Laurel or The Narrows there is a great soccer facility. BUSA (Birmingham United Soccer Association) is about to start the spring season.

Having been through several seasons with my three children, who are all die hard soccer fans, I can say without a doubt this is a great organization.

The proximity of the fields to Highland Lakes and other communities is great. Shelby County Sports Blast fields are located on Highway 280 directly across from The Narrows subdivision.

Sign up for the spring season is here. So don't miss out.

You have a choice when you are searching for a house. You can look for a house or you can look for a home. When I was looking, I knew I wanted to find a home and that led me to Highland Lakes. I fell in love instantly with the tranquil setting. You come in off the hustle and bustle that is Highway 280 and begin your winding drive home. After passing through the gated front entrance, your stress from a hard day starts to ease away. You begin your drive down a slow, weaving wood-lined road. Slowly, you approach two magnificent lakes on either side of the road and you know at that point, you are home! Stop off at one of the many parks and take in the sounds of birds singing as the breeze slowly blows. You begin to notice how quiet and peaceful it is as you continue to relax. When you finally do arrive at your home you notice how amazing all of the homes on your street look, how friendly your neighbors are and it is at that point you realize once and for all. I am home.

Never knew I could have so much fun. This year in Highland Lakes I hosted three fabulous events. Started on Washington's birthday with the Dream Cakes cupcake truck, and giving all the kids a free cupcake. Next to celebrate the end of school and the beginning of summer we all met again in the park for a Goodies Ice Cream. Finished with a great day at the end of July taking 150 kids and their parents to see the Minions. Thanks to all for making it year to remember!

Highland Lakes Bark in the Park was held in Grove Park on Sunday, May 3rd. Everyone brought out their favorite pups for doggie treats, giveaways, Delicio's Pizza, snow cones, adoptable dogs and hot air balloon rides. The weather was perfect. You could even have a drawing of your favorite pet. Lots of Highland Lakes residents attended this fun-filled event and made wonderful memories and some great photos in the hot air balloon.

Highland Lakes Easter Hunt was a huge success. Over 75 kids, plus parents and grandparents participated in this year's event. Over 150 people were on the grounds in Grove Park. The gazebo was decorated and coffee and drinks were served, along with cakes and cookies and cupcakes. Another great fun day in Grove Park.

When my husband and I moved back to Highland Lakes from the beach we quickly realized we really missed the seasons! After the cold winter (cold by Southern standards), the bloom of the cherry trees is the first indication that spring has arrived. When the white cherry blooms fall to the ground it looks like snow at first glance but we all know that the lush green will soon be everywhere. I love this beautiful community with its lakes, willow trees, cherry trees, and crepe myrtles... so beautiful.
