As a Tuscaloosa native, I travel by Bryant Denny Stadium weekly and many times enjoy my walk on campus. Home of the Crimson Tide it has become an intimidating venue for many other teams to play and is ranked as one of the toughest locations to play according to Bleacher Report and NCAA Football. The Stadium seats over 100,000. The grass on the field is Bermuda grass and is painted every Wednesday, requiring 500 gallons of paint!

The Will May Dog Park within Sokol Park is a great place to take your furry friend for their exercise and yours as well! Developed after a family lost their son, Will May, in a hunting accident, the park is usually busy with families and dogs enjoying their day within a large fenced area. Smaller dogs are separated from the larger dogs so you can relax on one of the park benches and let them play.

What a beautiful tulip tree in the front yard of The Mildred Warner House! The one-story Georgian house went through several owners and survived the Civil War. It was known as the Washington Moody house before being purchased by the Warner Foundation. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is one of the earliest brick houses in Tuscaloosa.

The 69 South and Hillcrest area of Tuscaloosa remains popular because of the schools. There is plenty of shopping, restaurants and churches too! It's a great place to call home.

Because of the popularity of the schools there are many residential neighborhoods within a variety of price ranges. Choose from a small garden home, or a larger 4-bedroom home for the larger family.

Sokol Park has miles of paved biking and walking trails. Fortunately I can walk or bike from my home. And I do often! It's a great way to get out in nature or meet my girls at Ingram's Ice Cream Shop. This path is near the Old Colony Golf Course.

The Bama Belle riverboat rests on the Black Warrior River at Medeiros Point at the end of Greensboro Avenue in downtown Tuscaloosa. My husband, Randy, and I have enjoyed going for several memorable river cruises. You might occasionally see the paddle-wheel boat cruising the Black Warrior river while enjoying lunch at Riverwalk. It's always fun to spot the Bama Belle along the Black Warrior River.

The Park at Manderson Landing located on the Black Warrior River is part of Tuscaloosa’s Riverwalk. It’s one of my favorite places for a hike or bike ride. Maintained by the City, there are lighted walking paths, lush landscaping, river views, iron benches, playground, pavilions and picnic tables. Stop by the retail shops for frozen yogurt or Brunch at Another Broken Egg after your walk. Perfect family activity! And on Saturday mornings stop by the Farmer’s Market for fresh vegetables, homemade baked goods, fresh roasted coffee and local teas.

Upscale shopping in Tuscaloosa has taken a step even higher. After Publix came in and put stores in all of our geographic locations, the Fresh Market has come in to be an anchor store at The Shoppes at Legacy Park on McFarland Boulevard right next to the DCH Regional Medical Center, Crimson Place Condominiums, the University of Alabama Law School and main campus. An open air, market place atmosphere makes for a pleasant shopping experience. Plenty of selections in meat, fish and produce complement the fresh prepared salads, and take it and bake it meals. The Fresh Market is a welcome new member of Tuscaloosa's super markets, but don't just take my word for it, go shop there and see for yourself!

Southern Ale House on McFarland Boulevard is a popular place for folks in Tuscaloosa to get together and enjoy good company, good conversation and a delicious meal. Steaks, burgers and fish and specialty drinks complement the menu in a very friendly atmosphere with an outside patio for when the weather is nice. They have a sports bar where you can get your favorite drink and watch whatever games are on. It's a nice place to eat, but don't take my word for it, go see for yourself!

Campus Life located on McFarland Boulevard north of the Black Warrior River is a faith-based non-denominational Activity Center for middle school and high school students. Led by college students, campus life gives young people a chance to interact socially and learn skills to help prepare them for adult life. In Tuscaloosa, the Crimson Tide's head coach Nick Saban is revered. When he speaks, everyone listens. Bob's Victory Grille in Midtown Village hosts Coach Saban's radio talk show each Tuesday night and it's always standing room only. If you love Alabama football it's the place to be on Tuesday nights in the Fall. And by the way, "Bob" is Bob Baumhower, former University of Alabama football player who went on to play for the Miami Dolphins.

Hats off to the Tuscaloosa Park and Recreation Authority and the May Family for bringing Tuscaloosa its first completely fenced in dog park where dogs can freely roam unleashed in a pet safe environment. Only two years old, the park has become the community's most popular and constantly used park and has already hosted two dog festivals known as the Bark in the Park to raise awareness and maintenance monies to keep the park a quality green space. Attendance has already reached 1500 dogs and 3000 humans! Situated inside Sokol Park at the Tuscaloosa/Northport City lines, the dog park is a perfect example of how green spaces support the recreational pursuits and quality of life among families living in dozens of neighborhoods in a five mile radius of the park. Green Spaces are an important part of the old real estate formula that value is 'location, location, location.' But don't just take my word for it, come visit The Will May Dog Park and see for yourself.

Denny Chimes is a tower located on the Quad at the University of Alabama. Named after a former University President, the bell chimes every 15 minutes and on the hour, playing the alma matter or songs celebrating holidays. When hiking on campus, my granddaughters absolutely love hearing the chimes. Fun activity for the family.
