Downtown Decatur is the epicenter for Decatur's future. You will find some great local shopping and several fantastic restaurants: The Brick Deli, Simp McGee's, and Mellow Mushroom. However the spotlight falls squarely on two downtown establishments. The old grand fixture is the Princess Theater which is home home to dance recitals, concerts, plays, and more. If it is happening in downtown Decatur, chances are the Princess Theater is involved. The newest attraction is the Cook's Natural Science Museum. When the museum opens this June, it will help visitors learn about the natural world around them using the latest in immersive and interactive educational exhibits. • It's my favorite time of year! This will be the 39th year of the Alabama Jubilee Hot Air Balloon Classic. This is the kick off to summer and it is always a blast! RE/MAX Platinum and 60+ other balloonists from around the US will gather at Point Mallard Park Memorial weekend for a splendid showing of hot air balloons. Get there early to watch these magnificent machines take off silently with only the occasional "wooshing" of the flame. I have personally been up for a ride and there are no words to describe the silent beauty of seeing our community from 3000 feet in the air!

Although the balloons are the main attraction there is plenty to do and see, including food, live entertainment, tractor show, arts and crafts and antique cars. Stick around Saturday night for the Balloon Glow at sunset and Sunday most balloons offer tethered rides - but get there early because the lines form quickly and tend to be long. Admission and parking are free! Don't miss this opportunity to start your summer off with fun and beautiful sights in Decatur, AL - the River City!

Everything is beautiful in the springtime--especially in Decatur, AL. Dogwoods, azaleas, new green leaves, and perennials poking out of the ground provide a glorious spread of color--and pollen. But thank goodness the pollen washes away!
